‘One of stupidest things I’ve ever done’ – Shane Lowry speechless after forgetting most basic rule of golf at US Open

SHANE LOWRY was left kicking himself after a basic blunder at the US Open.

The World No.12 sensationally picked up his ball before marking it on the 14th green in his second round at Oakmont.

Lowry instantly realised his blunder and cursed his violation of the most basic of golf rules.

And, as per the rules, he was immediately penalised a point – although he could’ve been docked two.

Lamenting his gaffe, albeit with a smile on his face, he said: “It’s probably one of the stupidest things I’ve ever done.

“I just picked the ball up.

“I had the ball my hand turned around and [caddie] Darren [Reynolds] he basically said to me, ‘What are you doing?’

“I put it back down and marked it and played on and I knew it was gonna get penalised.

“I didn’t know if it was going to be one or two.

“But yeah, maybe I was just my mind was somewhere else, but I fought. I still tried.”

Golf fans were equally as blown away by the 38-year-old’s blunder, with one saying: “Oops.”

Another said: “Oakmont has got to Lowry.”

And another said: “Not a good thing to do.”

One remarked: “Shane’s not having a good time.”

Another sarcastically chimed in: “He needs to play in the PGA some more.”

Lowry ultimately ended up missing the cut for the second time in seven US Open appearances with scores of 79 and 78.

When asked where he went wrong, he said: “I don’t know to be honest.

It’s probably one of the stupidest things I’ve ever done.”

“I drove it in play a lot yesterday, did what I was supposed to off the tee.

“And then just didn’t have my game that I’ve had for the last while.

“And then I really struggled on the greens yesterday and the round got away from me here and that was it.

“I let it sort of do [to me] what I said it wouldn’t do. But that’s Oakmont. That’s the US Open.”

American Sam Burns currently tops the leaderboard in three under, with JJ Spaun Jr. a shot behind him in second place.

World’s only tequila train relaunches with all-you-can-drink shots onboard

AFTER nine years away, a unique tequila train has finally restarted.

The Tequila Express in Mexico allows passengers to drink all-they-can, whilst whizzing through Jalisco’s UNESCO-listed countryside.

The Tequila Express returned last year, after a nine year hiatus.

Originally created in 1997, the original Tequila Express train journeyed from Guadalajara through Jalisco’s countryside.

However, the service was then abandoned in 2015 as it couldn’t compete with two other tequila trains – Jose Cuervo Express and the Herradura Express.

The Tequila Express returned following $9million (£6.6million) in investment by local governments, tourism and railroad companies.

Onboard, passengers are served food and of course, tequila, throughout the journey.

Visitors can alternatively choose to go on the Jose Cuervo Express, which runs between Guadalajara and Tequila on one-way, pre-curated itineraries.

Passengers can opt for either a sunrise or sunset tour, with four different cabin classes.

Included in the ticket, is time in Tequila itself – with opportunities to explore Mundo Cuervo facilities including the Juan Beckmann Gallardo Cultural Centre and La Rojeña Distillery.

In the basic Express class, there is a tequila tasting and tour.

On the other hand, the Elite package includes seating in the train’s most opulent cabin, with Mexican cuisine, tequila tasting and more activities.

The Herradura Express is then also similar, heading from Guadalajara to Tequila.

There are several cabin options are available as well as a Wagon Bar – an intimate Wagon Intermedio for small groups.

One visitor shared on Tripadvisor: “It is an unforgettable experience.”

Another added: “Great opportunity to learn about the tequila production process from field to glass, with tutored tastings and a tour of the distillery.

“The sunset train journey back was superb with wonderful food and non-stop, freshly made cocktails.

“Will remember the day for a lifetime.”

Today, Jalisco is home to around 150 registered distilleries and 20 of which, are in Tequila.

Whilst some of the train experiences available include a visit to a distillery, Tequila is also home to El Tequileño/Casa Salles – the only distillery on Tequila, where you can also stay.

The Casa Salles, El Tequileño’s boutique hotel offers a spa experience and is within walking distance of the city centre.

The venue also offers distillery tours and tastings, a restaurant and hiking and city tours via the hotel.

Tequila, to legally be tequila, mist be produced in Jalisco or one of the designated tequila municipalities located in four other states.

There is also a hidden bar in England named one of the world’s best – the only one in the UK to make the list.

Plus, you can now stay in a Tequila hotel where you can drink all the booze you want – and sleep in a barrel.

Body of woman in her 30s found at home after ‘car crashed into McDonald’s’ as cops arrest man on suspicion of murder

THE BODY of a 30-year-old woman has been found at a home after a car crashed into a McDonald’s — leading police to arrest a man on suspicion of murder.

Northamptonshire Police have confirmed that a man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman’s body was discovered in Burton Latimer.

Officers said they received reports of a man crashing a blue Skoda Superb at a McDonald’s on Folley Way at around 3.30pm on June 13.

Police arrived at the scene, which led to the discovery of a woman in her 30s found dead at an address on Donnington Road.

The East Midlands Special Operations Unit has launched a murder investigation and is appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

A local resident said they saw forensic teams and a heavy police presence in what is usually a quiet town.

Police said the 35-year-old man arrested remains in custody and confirmed they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the murder.

Neighbourhood policing teams will remain in the area, carrying out regular patrols to reassure the community and encouraging anyone with concerns to speak to them.

Senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Torie Harrison, of EMSOU, said: “Following the tragic discovery of a woman’s body in Burton Latimer yesterday afternoon, our thoughts and condolences are with everyone who knew and loved her.

“We have established a comprehensive and fast-moving investigation into the circumstances of her death, with one arrest made.

“At present we believe this to be an isolated incident with no risk to the wider community.

“I know news of this death will cause immense concern and distress to people in the local area, and we will be maintaining an enhanced presence over the coming days to provide reassurance and support as enquiries continue.”

Anyone with information — including CCTV, smart doorbell, or dash-cam footage — is urged to contact Northamptonshire Police on 101, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
