‘He’s giving up’ – Darts star Gerwyn Price stuns commentator with crazy tactic in World Grand Prix loss to Luke Littler

GERWYN PRICE stunned a commentator with a bizarre tactic as he was dumped out of the World Grand Prix by Luke Littler.

The Iceman threw away a two-set lead in agonising fashion to the world champion in a thrilling match.

Littler looked down and out at one stage, but rallied in the third set and the momentum began to swing.

He broke Price’s throw to lead 1-0 and then got off to a fast start in the second leg, while his opponent failed to hit a double to get his leg underway.

Price missed his first six attempts at double while Littler stormed ahead, with a 180 leaving just 134 to seal the leg.

With the leg all but over Price decided he would have some practice darts, and had a go at hitting double 13 – much to the commentator’s dismay.

Sky Sports’ Mark Webster said: “Is my interpretation right there that Gerwyn Price hit the double 13 with his second dart and then just thought, ‘oh I’ll have more practice on the 13 because I’ve been missing’.

“That is what he is doing! That is what he is doing! He is giving up the leg to get some practice in on double 13.”

Littler of course won the leg and the following one to claim his first set.

He then levelled the match to send it to a deciding set, with Price failing to hold his nerve as he missed three darts to win the match.

The match went down to the final leg and Price again had difficulty finding a double.

But he was set to throw for the match again before Littler checked out a sensational 152 finish to book his place in the semi-final.

The world champion said after his win: “It was very, very strange. Obviously I wasn’t happy going 2-0 down.

“First and second set I was just on the wire every single time. I couldn’t get those doubles in. My sore throat is definitely worth it!

“I went 2-0 up and I thought I’m guaranteed on my throw to throw for the match. I said to myself this has to go and it went.”

Vicky Pattison reveals bloodied face just hours before Strictly live show

VICKY Pattison has revealed her bloodied face just hours before the next Strictly live show.

The 37-year-old TV star had already caused concern behind-the-scenes on Strictly after coming down with a ‘mystery bug’ earlier in the week.

One of her dogs got so excited to see her he accidentally bust her nose

But while she managed to overcome that, she’s gave the Strictly glam squad some extra work to do on Saturday ahead of Musicals Week after revealing her bloodied face.

Vicky had shared a video on her Instagram Stories of her arriving home to her excited dogs, Max and Milo, after a hectic week rehearsing for the show and launching her latest fashion collection with Little Mistress.

But moments later, she shared a close up picture of her face, with her nose covered in bright red blood.

She wrote underneath it: “Just been one of those weeks lads…Ill at the start of the week, chipped me tooth in a spicy lift with Kai and now Max has popped me nose and cut it in his sheer excitement to see me…

“I can’t be mad…but I am b****y due some good luck surely.”

A previous post on Thursday alluded to her mystery illness as she shared two snaps, one glam, one not so glam.

She wrote alongside them: “Can we just take a moment for my glam team, stylist and the strictly angels who helped turn me from this feral little rat who looks like they live under a bridge and demands riddles to cross into THIS???!!

“Lads it’s been a WEEK… strictly rehearsals, mystery bug, VT’s, Erc away, my clothing collection launch… and I just don’t want anyone thinking I look too glam to give a damn all the time..

“I just thought it was important to show you all both sides of the coin… she LOVES to be a glam girly don’t get me wrong but there’s a hell of a lot of the time I look more like an exhausted little troll.”

While Vicky has managed to battle through her illness and will perform during Musicals Week on Saturday night, the same cannot be said for co-star, Stefan Dennis.

It was revealed on Friday evening that the Neighbours legend had also been unwell, and would not be joining his fellow celebrities on the live show.

The statement read: “Due to illness over the past few days, Stefan Dennis has been advised by doctors to rest and as a result, he will not dance this weekend.

“In line with the rules of Strictly, Stefan and Dianne will receive a bye through to next week when they will hopefully be able to dance again.”

Is this the real reason behind Turki Alalshikh’s Man Utd takeover claims? French billionaire key to £2bn stadium plans

TURKI ALALSHIKH’S speculation about a potential sale of Manchester United is possibly linked to plans to rebuild Old Trafford.

United sources were perplexed by Saudi Arabian government official Alalshikh suggesting that the club was in discussions about a potential sale.

Alalshikh was linked with a possible takeover of French club Marseille two years ago and he has dealt with billionaire Rodolphe Saade, who also considered buying Marseille.

Saade is the chairman and chief executive of the CMA CGM Group, which recently acquired Freightliner.

Freightliner own land around Old Trafford that is central to United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s plans to build a brand-new 100,000-all seater stadium next to the club’s 115-year-old stadium.

Saade has met several times with Alalshikh, who was the owner of Spanish club Almeria until earlier this year and is best known in his country for bringing boxing bouts to Saudi.

Old Trafford taskforce leader Lord Seb Coe flew to New York as recently as July to sound out potential investors who could help foot the bill for the new stadium.

United have estimated that the cost for a new Old Trafford could be as high as £2billion.

Alalshikh resorted to a major climbdown on X after he sparked online hysteria about a possible takeover of United.

“My post about Manchester United’s potential sale meant one thing: the club is in an advanced negotiation phase with a new investor,” Alalshikh tweeted.

“Just to clarify, I am not the investor, nor are they from my nation. I’m posting this as a fan who wishes the deal to happen, though it might not necessarily happen.”

The Saudi government has been accused of sportswashing through its boxing ventures and ownership of Newcastle United.

Saudi officials have baselessly suggested a takeover was in the offing in the past. United sources suspected at the time it was an attempt to drive up the share price.

Ratcliffe discussed his relationship with United’s majority owners, the Glazer family, in an interview with The Business podcast that was broadcast on Wednesday.

“We’re local, and they’re the other side of the pond,” Ratcliffe said. “That’s a long way away to try and manage a football club as big and as complex as Manchester United. We’re here with feet on the ground.

“It’s just a good working relationship. They come to the board meetings. We sit down and we talk about things.

“There’s probably something written in the formal agreement (about who controls football operations) but I did say when we finally put those legal agreements to bed, ‘I hope that’s the last time we ever see them’.

“They were just put in the bottom drawer and I’ve never looked at them since to be honest.”

What we know about the 'new' Old Trafford

MANCHESTER UNITED plan to build a new stadium rather than redevelop Old Trafford.

The decision was made after a number of fact-finding missions to other stadiums including the Bernabeu and Nou Camp.

The cost of the project is expected to be a staggering £2billion.

A capacity of 100,000 is expected.

It is felt that a club of United’s standing should have a new state-of-the-art facility.

The new stadium will be built on land adjacent to the Red Devils’ current home.

United are looking to not only build a stadium but regenerate the area of Trafford where the ground will stand.

There had been plans to KEEP Old Trafford rather than demolish it, and use it as a scaled down second venue.

However, it’s looking increasing likely that it will in fact be entirely demolished.

The club consulted with 30,000 fans about what to do and believe there is roughly a 50-50 split on staying or moving.

The club have appointed the architects Foster + Partners to come up with a “masterplan”. The company were behind Wembley Stadium.

Old Trafford has been United’s home since 1910.

The target is for completion by 2030.
