The M11 was closed near Stansted airport following a multi-vehicle crash this afternoon.

Drivers faced delays of around 45 minutes as emergency services attended the scene.

The motorway was closed southbound between junction 10 Royston and junction 8 Stansted Airport.

A diversion was set up, and heavy traffic has been reported in the area.

National Highways have now confirmed one side of the road has reopened.

Congestion is said to have largely eased, but slow traffic is still reported.

Drivers have been warned to avoid the area if possible.

NOTTINGHAM FOREST have hired the architects who expanded Anfield to renovate their stadium.

And that could see the City Ground’s capacity soar to 45,000.

Forest did have planning permission for a redevelopment already sorted.

However, they opted to scrap those plans – with The Athletic reporting the club turned to KSS Group.

The architects have drawn up ambitious designs to triple the size of the Peter Taylor Stand to a whopping 15,000 – making it one of the biggest stands in English football.

Forest’s initial plans to replace their oldest and smallest stand would have seen the capacity increase from 30,000 to 35,000.

And the builders were due to get to work next year.

However, KSS’ drawings would see the new structure stand at a whopping 58m – 20m higher than the first plans.

Crucially, they want to build the new stand behind the existing one – so as not to significantly reduce the ground’s capacity during the construction.

Forest – who did consider moving their home entirely to a new site – also want to fill in the corners of the Trent End to add an extra 5,000 seats.

The exact updated capacity will not be announced until confirmation of the go-ahead, but is likely to be between 43,000 and 45,000.

The new plans will need to get the green light from the Rushcliffe Borough Council.

KSS led the renovation of two stands at Anfield in recent years.

They also did Liverpool and Leicester City’s new training grounds.

KSS were going to be the architects for Leeds’ update of Elland Road but the club have switched to another firm.

Their plans for Elland Road were very similar to their Anfield designs.

Another architect, Konstantinos Chatzimanolis, is also involved in the City Ground project.

Chatzimanolis was appointed by Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis as an executive in his footballing group – which also includes Olympiacos and Rio Ave.

It is unclear exactly what would happen if Forest were relegated but it appears they are keen to press on with the modernisation and expansion regardless.

A 45,000-seater stadium would make their ground the biggest in the East Midlands – with Leicester’s King Power plans to increase the capacity to 40,000 seemingly currently on pause.
