THOMAS TUCHEL will not come into Manchester United’s consideration if they dismiss Ruben Amorim mid-season.

England coach Tuchel, 52, was coveted by United when they contemplated sacking Erik ten Hag and he met with co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

However, sources say Tuchel was distinctly unimpressed by United’s process before the FA swooped in to appoint the German as Gareth Southgate’s replacement a year ago.

Tuchel’s contract as England coach runs until the end of the 2026 World Cup and he is fully expected to see it through.

United had lined up Tuchel to take charge a second time a year ago, having abandoned plans to sack Ten Hag after the FA Cup triumph against Manchester City in May.

United again delayed dismissing Ten Hag and former Chelsea coach Tuchel was installed as the new England coach.

In a candid interview with The Times’ The Business podcast in midweek, Ratcliffe said Amorim, who took over last November, was a third of the way through a three-year project.

Sir Jim said: “I would say Ruben needs to demonstrate that he’s a great coach over three years.

“That’s where I would be: [Give him] Three years. Because football is not overnight.”

However, Ratcliffe conceded football is a results-based industry.

United have won 19 games out of 50 under Amorim and taken 37 points from 34 matches in the Premier League during that time.

Amorim was in the dugout for 27 of United’s 38 league fixtures last term and they finished 15th, the club’s worst finish since relegation in 1974.

United have lost three and won three in the league this season and they resume their campaign at Liverpool next Sunday.

United are winless at Anfield in their past ten games and last won there in January 2016.

Ratcliffe added: “We’re results driven at the end of the day but we have to be patient. We have to see through the results. 

“I think there are lots of good things at Manchester United. We have to be patient. We have a long-term plan. It isn’t a lightswitch.”

But a win for the 30-year-old over former world champ Joseph Parker on October 25 will make him the mandatory challenger for two of the four belts held by sensational southpaw Usyk.

He told SunSport: “It was a funny conversation I had with my team.

“I am one punch away from potentially fighting Oleksandr Usyk for one or all of the belts.

“I think I had only been a pro for about two years when I got the Facebook message and invite to fly out there and spar him.

“It would probably be funny from his perspective too, to look across the ring one night and see me and think, ‘I recognise him.’”

Wardley and Parker could both have taken easier fights while they wait for Usyk to decide his next move.

But they’ve both bravely signed up to give UK fight fans an O2 thriller, at a time when most big fights are heading to Saudi Arabia.

Wardley added: “It’s a testament to both our characters.

“We are of a similar mindset.

“We could have both sat on the sidelines and bided our time.

“But ring rust is a horrible thing.

“And I want to make the most of all the opportunities that I’ve made possible.

DURHAM Cathedral is throwing a “silent disco” rave in its nave – sparking a furious backlash.

The 1,000 year-old church is promising partygoers a night of “epic DJs” playing 1980s pop classics in “stunning surroundings”.

They are charging between £30 and £75 for tickets to the rave, which is being hosted in January next year.

But critics said the Church of England should stick to religion rather than putting on club nights.

It comes after Canterbury Cathedral was slammed for putting graffiti stickers up in its historic church.

Sir Simon Clarke, a former Tory Cabinet minister who now runs the Onward think-tank, said: “In my experience, people want a more serious Church of England, offering meaningful guidance and moral teaching, and celebrating the beauty of our churches and traditions. 

“What we get too often instead is lightweight stuff more suited to a failing youth club than a strong, confident national Church.”

Reform UK MP Lee Anderson added: “£75 a ticket? The Lord certainly does work in mysterious ways.”

An advert for the ‘rave in a nave’ says clubbers will be treated to a night of 80s classics including songs by Prince, Michael Jackson and Madonna.
