WES Streeting has accused the doctors union of “dangerous extremism” after its members urged GPs to “overwhelm” A&E departments with patients in a revolt against reforms.
Members of the British Medical Association (BMA) wrote to doctors telling them to ignore guidelines saying patients should go to a pharmacy if they need same day care.
PAHealth Secretary Wes Streeting has warned that BMA members are putting patients at risk with their hardline tactics[/caption]
They urged GPs to send patients to casualty units instead – claiming that using pharmacists more undermines doctors.
The Health Secretary said he was “shocked and appalled” at the letter and accused the BMA of using patients as “political props”.
He has written to Dr Katie Bramall-Stainer, chairwoman of the BMA’s GPs committee, demanding answers.
In a letter, seen by The Sun on Sunday, Mr Streeting accused the hardline doctors of an “outrageous disregard for patients”.
He added: “Patients should never be used as political props.
“It is completely unjustifiable and unacceptable to encourage irresponsible action that risks people’s safe and timely access to care.
“Putting patients’ safety at risk to prove a point is dangerous extremism that has no place in our NHS.”

He demanded Dr Bramall-Stainer to “unequivocally condemn this letter” and remind BMA members of their “professional duty” to protect their patients.
The original letter was written by Dr Becky Haines, a member of the BMA’s national GP committee, and Dr Paul Evans, a Gateshead GP and member of a radical BMA faction and sits on its UK council.
The BMA said the letter was sent by a local committee.
They said: “This was not a BMA communication. We had no role in its drafting or dissemination, and its content does not represent the position of the BMA or GPs committee England.
“We understand that the letter was sent in error without the knowledge of the authors.”

SWNSCops forced their way into Bob White’s Sheerness home in 2019[/caption]
SWNSHe has now revealed he plans to sue Kent Police for thousands[/caption]
Bob White, 62, was Tasered twice and punched in the head by cops as they entered his home in Sheerness, in 2019.
He is now taking Kent Police to court, with a five-day civil trial set to begin at Canterbury County Court on Monday.
Six years ago, the grandfather barricaded himself inside his home before officers, bailiffs and a locksmith arrived with a county court warrant to evict him from his home, reports KentOnline.
The eviction was due to a dispute over mortgage payments.
Footage from the scene shows police smash the bottom half of his door, before forcing their way inside and restraining Mr White.
One officer then proceeded to Taser him, while another grabbed and punched him in the face several times.
The grandfather can also be seen holding a wooden club.
Police claimed that he was behaving in an aggressive manner and swinging a 3ft piece of timber at them when they entered – which Mr White denied.
Body-worn footage shows Mr White moments later sitting on the floor in handcuffs while covered in blood.
He was soon after arrested and charged with affray, but was unanimously cleared of any wrongdoing by a jury in 2022.
Judge David Griffith-Jones QC ruled that the officers from Kent Police had entered his home unlawfully and that he was within his rights to defend his home during the incident.
Now, Mr White is determined to hold the cops to account for the incident.
He told KentOnline that all he wants from the force is an apology.
He said: “I will never give up until I get justice and they take accountability.”
He explained that if he got only got £1 from the judge and the police admitted they were in the wrong, then he would be happy.

The bricklayer will be representing himself and has said he is fighting the case in honour of his late wife Irene, who died four months after the incident.
In the wake of his eviction and arrest, Mr White stayed with his mother before eventually being able to return to the house.
He was not able to proceed with his civil claim until 2022 because of the ongoing criminal proceedings.
Mr White has shared that if his civil claim is successful, he intends to pursue criminal proceedings against the officers involved.
Addressing the jury in 2022, he said: “My life has been on hold for three years while this came to court.
Speaking after the verdict, Mr White added: “I went through this for all the other people who are being wrongfully evicted by police.
“I hope this sets a precedent for other people to challenge unlawful evictions.
“It’s not just a physical struggle for people facing similar circumstances to me but a mental one.
“People in the same situation have ended up killing themselves over the stress from it.
“I just hope this case will help someone in the same situation as me. The officers and police need to be held to account for this.”
A Kent Police spokesperson confirmed that the force is defending a civil claim but said it would be inappropriate to comment until the end of the trial.
What are your eviction rights?
According to housing charity Shelter, landlords and letting agents must follow correct procedures to evict tenants.
Currently, landlords have to give you 14 days notice before serving you an eviction notice period.
Once you’ve been served this eviction notice, you have a two-month period before court action can be started against you.
After this period is up, your landlord has four months to take you to court.
But it’s an illegal eviction if your landlord or anyone acting on their behalf:
forces you to leave by threatening or harassing you
kicks you out or uses physical force to make you leave
stops you from getting into parts of your home
changes the locks while you’re out
If your landlord does take you to court, you could also end up being liable for some of the costs
Also, charities like Shelter and Citizens Advice might also be able to offer some assistance.
Legal aid could also help if you have a serious housing problem.
If you are on benefits or have a low income you could get:
telephone advice from civil legal advice
an appointment with a legal advisor or solicitor
help at a possession hearing from a court duty advisor
You can also get help with stopping or delaying eviction, court action for mortgage repossession and illegal eviction and harassment.
1 week agoNews TvComments Off on It looks like Keir Starmer and his aides let the China spy ring trial collapse – we are owed answers
Communist China is a threat to our security. It shouldn’t be difficult to say that.
Let’s remind ourselves of the threat China poses.
GettyChris Philp, Shadow Home Secretary, is demanding Sir Keir Starmer and his government come clean about the collapse of the China spy ring trial[/caption]
It is an authoritarian state where free speech doesn’t exist. It is closely allied with Russia and North Korea and has been actively supporting both.
China’s communist dictator, Xi Jinping, views democracy as his enemy.
And according to MI5, China has been engaging in espionage against the UK on an “epic” scale – by trying to steal sensitive technology, among other things.
So how come two alleged Chinese spies were unable to be properly tried on the basis we couldn’t prove China is a threat?
He has made clear the case actually collapsed because Labour refused to provide the evidence needed – exploding their claims.
PAPrime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has faced questions over what he knew about the evidence being passed to the CPS in the China spy ring case[/caption]
It was a bombshell intervention. It means Labour – not the CPS – sabotaged the trial.
Keir Starmer is now busy trying to dodge the blame, by first claiming the last government did not publicly say China was a threat.
That claim is also total rubbish and is anyway not the legal test.
In April 2024 then Security Minister Tom Tugendhat said China’s behaviour posed “a serious threat to the security and wellbeing of the British people.”
Government reviews also recognised China as “the biggest state-based threat to the UK’s economic security” and a danger to our people and our prosperity.
As a former Minister I know that the government also has reams of internal documents from the relevant period exposing the threat China posed.
Even classified information can be disclosed confidentially.
But Labour refused to provide that evidence to the CPS, causing the prosecution to collapse.
Worse, it seems they did it on purpose.
And why did they do that? So China didn’t get upset.
That’s right: our weak Prime Minister is so desperate not to offend Beijing that he’s let a trial collapse.
As his economic plans lie in ruins around him, he wants China to dig him out – and he thinks this is more important than national security.
Starmer is engaging in a great kow-tow in his desperation for Chinese trade and investment deals – even at the expense of security. It’s shameful.
This will have huge consequences. Chinese spies now know they can obtain state secrets and face no punishment.
And spies from other countries will look at this case and see how pathetic our government is. They will be emboldened, and will take advantage.
Of course, Labour is desperately trying to cover it all up.
But they are so incompetent that they can’t even get that right, and their story keeps changing.
At first, they insisted the CPS made the decision to drop the case entirely independently. When the CPS themselves exploded that, they then tried to blame the last government.
Now they claim current Ministers weren’t involved in the decision to withhold evidence. That shift matters, because it means top advisers are likely to have been involved.
Reports suggest that one of them was deeply involved – adviser and close friend to Keir Starmer, Jonathan Powell.
It is widely known that Powell has a long track record of seeking to toady up to China, along with his close pal the disgraced Lord Mandelson.
If Powell did authorise critical that evidence should be withheld – which seems very likely – he must be fired.
But this goes beyond him. It is inconceivable that Powell acted without Starmer’s knowledge.
That puts the spotlight on the man in Number Ten – he must now admit to what he knew and when.
The same man whose leadership campaign was funded by dodgy donations.
The same man who broke all his promises to voters within a year of getting into power.
We cannot trust anything he says.
He is cosying up to the brutal Chinese regime, going against the warnings of security experts.
Keir Starmer is putting the interests of a foreign adversary before our own national interest and then covering it up. We will not let him get away with it.
The Conservatives will use every tool at our disposal to expose the truth.
