SAM Thompson has broken his silence on injury that forced him out of Soccer Aid, saying he had to be “carried” to the physio room.

The Sun revealed today the former Made in Chelsea star, 32, had been ruled out of playing in this year’s match, escaping an awkward on-pitch encounter with Louis Tomlinson.

Sam was due to play in the same England side as One Direction star Louis, 33, who is now dating his ex Zara McDermott.

Now, in a video shared from their training ground at Champneys Tring health spa, Sam is seen being heckled by his former I’m A Celeb co-star Tony Bellew for spending so much time in the physio room.

This comes despite the fact the former boxer had to help him get there.

Tony teased: “I came in here, you are here non-stop. And last year, guess what? You’ve been here non-stop as well. Now this year, you haven’t gone today. You haven’t been on the pitch. Why are you still in here?”

“You carried me across the Mersey,” Sam replied, laughing. “I’ve torn my calf, you f***ing liar.”

Posting the clip on social media, which also featured Tom Grennan, Sam added the cheeky caption: “Tony giving me grief for being in the physio room like he didn’t carry me across the mersy.”

Sam pulled out due to injuries sustained in his epic marathon challenge, in which he made the gruelling 260-mile trip from Stamford Bridge to Old Trafford via foot and bike.

A source said: “Sam is gutted he can’t play, but the match has just come too soon since his efforts.

“He’s still going to be a presence and play a big part in the coverage but he won’t be able to compete on the field.”

They added: “There is a small blessing in his withdrawal as the focus on him and Louis will disperse.

“Their every move will be watched so it’s a relief in some ways they won’t be on the pitch together.”

Sam and Louis were pictured training this week at Soccer Aid HQ in Tring, Herts, where the England and Rest of the World teams are preparing for the match.

Wayne Rooney and Tyson Fury will be managing the England team, assisted by Harry Redknapp, while ex-Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel will be in charge of the Rest of the World team.

Sam will play a “ceremonial role” in Sunday’s match, kicking off the game before heading into the stands.

On his absence, England teammate Mo Farah said: “If Sam’s unable to play that’s a shame but we’re still proud of him for his efforts and what he did for UNICEF.

“He’ll still be with us and part of our team on the day.”

It comes after Sam met Louis on the pitch during training on Thursday.

He was spotted smiling at the One Direction singer – who is dating his ex Zara.

Sam has been open about feeling low over his split from Zara, after their breakup in December.

The reality TV couple were in a relationship for five years, but decided to go their separate ways, with Zara being spotted with on a cosy dinner with Louis in March.

Louis and Zara were spotted on a cosy dinner date at The Suffolk in Aldeburgh, after a fellow diner secretly snapped the pair together.

Sam had moved on briefly with Love Island star, Samie Elishi, and were spotted smooching at Olivia Attwood’s 34th birthday bash in May.

He spoke about feeling heartbroken following his split from Zara and how he’d “let himself go” in the weeks after their breakup.

Sam’s best friend Pete Wicks had asked him about his ‘glow up‘ plans amid his new single life.

“It was a pretty tough time back then. I was thinking ‘God, you really let yourself go’,” Sam said on the duo’s podcast, Staying Relevant.

“Now I’ve got myself to a place where I’m like, I feel like I’m happy and I’m comfortable in my own skin again, if you know what I mean.”

Days before that, Pete took a massive swipe at Zara.

He delivered the scathing dig as Sam tackled a 260-mile endurance challenge on both bike and foot in aid of Unicef ahead of Soccer Aid.

Cheering him on from the roadside, Towie alum Pete, 37, shared a snap holding a sign that read, “You caaaaaan,” echoing Zara’s infamous plea to then-boyfriend Sam on Made in Chelsea after she admitted to cheating a year into their relationship.

Sam also opened up about what he would say to Louis when he saw him at Soccer Aid.

The TV star explained how he was doing an interview ahead of Soccer Aid endurance challenge and the journalist asked him, “I’ve got to ask the question that everyone wants to know… What’s it going to be like with you and Louis? Obviously he’s doing Soccer Aid too.”

Sam told Pete how his PR team panicked when the question was put to him, but he assured them it would be fine and proceeded to handle it diplomatically.

“I think I did alright and I meant everything I said as well, that it’s not about me or Louis or who anyone is dating, it’s f**king Unicef and charity and everyone is going to be there for the exact same reason,” Sam explained.

“And if he has anything about him which I’ve heard he does, he’s going to sit there and say the exact same thing.“

This weekend will see hot weather all weekend across the UK – and that’s bad news for your expensive gadgets.

It turns out that heat doesn’t just make your gadgets run more slowly and shut them down, but causes permanent damage too.

In fact, too much heat can permanently shorten the battery life of your phones, tablets, laptops, and even wireless headphones.

And one of the worst things you can do is leave them in your car, where temperatures can quickly rise to damaging levels.

OFFICIAL APPLE WARNING

Most rechargeable gadgets that you have at home or in your car use lithium-ion batteries.

These batteries degrade over time as you use them – leading to shorter battery life (and in some cases, slower performance as your device tries to protect the battery).

When your iPhone gets too cold or hot, the battery struggles to perform effectively, which can lead to problems and even total shut-downs.

But with heat, you also risk causing permanent damage to the battery cell.

An official Apple warning explains: “Use iOS and iPadOS devices where the ambient temperature is between 0º and 35ºC (32º to 95ºF).

“Low- or high-temperature conditions may cause your device to change its behaviour to regulate its temperature.

“Using an iOS or iPadOS device in very hot conditions can permanently shorten battery life.”

It’s not likely to break 35C this weekend, but you’re still at risk.

That’s because your car temperature can go well above the outside temperature.

So if you’re leaving your phone in your car while you’re swimming at the beach, that’s a big mistake.

And the same goes for tablets, laptops, and your Apple AirPods too. You’re looking at gadgets worth thousands of pounds.

“Store your device where the temperature is between -20º and 45ºC (-4º to 113ºF),” Apple warns.

“Don’t leave your device in your car because temperatures in parked cars can exceed this range.”

Apple says you must always avoid “leaving your device in a car on a hot day” – and certainly don’t let it linger in direct sunlight.

Similarly, you want to avoid using your iPhone for navigation in a car when it’s very hot or in direct sunlight too, unless you’ve got air conditioning.

If your iPhone gets too hot, you might notice some of these changes:

• Charging slows or stops
• Display dims brightness or goes totally black
• Signal gets worse as mobile radio in phone enters low-power state
• Camera flash disables
• Apps have lower frame rate or longer loading times
• Navigation switches off or goes audio-only

Your iPhone might also switch off entirely if it gets too hot.

At this point, you’ll need to make sure you get your iPhone to somewhere cool as soon as possible to avoid permanent damage.

In extremely high-temperature situations where you leave gadgets in direct sunlight, there’s even a fire risk – and that could result in staggeringly huge bills.

HOW TO FIX YOUR IPHONE BATTERY

If your iPhone does get serious heat damage, the battery will degrade.

And if that happens too often, you’ll find yourself with a worn down battery on a phone that holds increasingly less charge.

You can check your phone’s battery capacity compared to when it was new by going into Settings > Batter > Battery Health.

Normally you’d expect to hit 80% at around 500 charge cycles (charging up and down), which typically takes a person about two years.

So if yours is well below that, you’ll want to take action or you’ll be constantly stuck looking for a charger – and your phone may run more slowly too.

One option is to just replace the device entirely, but this is very costly.

A cheaper alternative is to pay for a battery replacement from Apple, which typically costs less than £100.

This will give your iPhone like-new battery life, and can even boost its performance too.

But to avoid big bills, it’s best to simply avoid letting your gadgets get too hot in the first place.

That way, you’ll have to replace your mobile less often.
