Armscor invites South African unemployed learners to apply for the Armscor External Bursary Programme 2026, aimed at supporting exceptional students pursuing studies in science and engineering fields.

About the Armscor Bursary Programme

Armscor, the Armaments Corporation of South Africa, offers bursaries to high-achieving students from previously disadvantaged backgrounds. The bursary aims to support the development of critical skills needed in the Defence industry.

The program supports full-time studies in Engineering, Science, and Technology fields aligned with Armscor’s strategic skills needs.


Fields of Study Covered

Armscor will award bursaries for the following fields:

  • Aeronautical Engineering
  • Biochemistry / Chemistry / Physics
  • Electronics / Electrical Engineering
  • Human Kinetics & Ergonomics Science
  • Computer Science / IT / Cyber Security / Artificial Intelligence
  • Physics & Astrophysics
  • Mechanical / Mechatronics Engineering
  • Naval / Marine Engineering

What the Bursary Covers

The Armscor bursary provides comprehensive financial support, including:

  • Tuition fees
  • Accommodation & meals
  • Prescribed books
  • Living allowance
  • Vacation work (where possible)

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • South African citizen
  • From a financially needy background (combined annual household income not exceeding R1 000 000)
  • Must be interested in working in the Defence industry
  • Achieved Level 5, 6, or 7 in Mathematics, Physical Science, and English
  • Studying or intending to study in one of the approved fields
  • Must study at a recognised public tertiary institution in South Africa
  • Excellent academic performance

Required Supporting Documents

Submit the following documents with the completed application form:

  • Certified copy of ID document
  • Certified copy of Matric mid-year results (if currently in Matric)
  • Certified copy of Matric certificate (if completed Matric)
  • Certified full academic record (for tertiary students)
  • Certified copy of parent(s)/guardian(s) ID
  • Parent(s)/guardian(s) proof of income
    • Latest payslips / employment letter / SASSA letter / affidavit for informal traders
  • Death certificate (if applicable)

Additional documents required during final selection:

  • Final Matric results (certified)
  • University acceptance letter or proof of registration
  • Student number
  • Fees statement (if already at tertiary level)
