The Sishen Iron Ore Company-Community Development Trust (SIOC-CDT) invites eligible students from its beneficiary communities to apply for the SIOC-CDT Bursary 2026.
Bursary Application Closing Date: 25 November 2025 (12:00 midday)
This bursary programme aims to support underprivileged learners in the Northern Cape and Limpopo provinces to further their studies at public higher education institutions across South Africa.
About the Bursary Provider – SIOC-CDT
SIOC-CDT was established in 2006 by the Sishen Iron Ore Company (PTY) LTD, owned by Kumba Iron Ore (KIO) (PTY) LTD. The Trust was created to invest in the socio-economic development of communities where SIOC operates.
Since inception, hundreds of bursaries have been awarded to deserving students, giving them the opportunity to pursue tertiary education and contribute back to their communities.
Fields Covered by the SIOC-CDT Bursary
Bursaries will be awarded for all fields of study, with preference given to:
- Agriculture: Veterinarian, Agricultural Engineer, Food Technologist, Environmental Officer, Agricultural Economist
- Business & Economics: Accounting, Auditing, Tax, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Project Management
- Education: BEd FET Mathematics, Physical Science, Natural Sciences, EMS, Foundation Phase, Special Needs, Languages
- Engineering & Science: Civil, Electrical, Quantity Surveying, Architecture, Geology, Town Planning, Environmental Health
- Health Sciences: Medicine (MBChB), Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy, EMS, Biochemistry, Medical & Biological Lab Sciences
- Information Technology: Computer Science, Software Development, Data Analytics, Web Development, Communication Technology
- Law: LLB
- Tourism: Hospitality, Arts & Culture Heritage, Ecotourism
Expenses Covered
The SIOC-CDT bursary provides comprehensive financial support including:
- Registration & tuition fees
- Accommodation
- Prescribed study material
- Laptop
- Monthly stipend
- Assistive devices (for students with disabilities)
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be a South African citizen
- Be under 35 years old at the closing date
- Reside in or originate from one of the following SIOC-CDT beneficiary communities:
- Northern Cape: Gamagara LM, Ga-Segonyana LM, Tsantsabane LM, Joe Morolong LM
- Limpopo: Thabazimbi LM
- Be currently in Matric (2025) or have completed Matric
- Be studying/intending to study full-time or part-time in 2026
- Be accepted or provisionally accepted at a public University, University of Technology, TVET or FET College in South Africa
- Have a minimum academic average of 65% in your most recent results
- Have a household income of less than R600,000 per year (before deductions)
- Be in need of financial support (compulsory)
- Students with disabilities are encouraged to apply

Required Supporting Documents
Applicants must submit certified copies (not older than 3 months) of the following:
- ID document
- Matric mid-year/prelim results (if in Matric) OR Matric certificate (if completed)
- Latest tertiary results (if currently studying)
- Proof of acceptance/provisional acceptance/application to a tertiary institution
- Parents/guardians’ proof of income (payslips or affidavit if unemployed)
- Parents/guardians’ 3 months recent bank statements
- Proof of residence (municipal bill, landlord letter or affidavit)
- Medical note confirming disability (if applicable)
Incomplete applications will not be considered.
