About the Learnership Programme
The Kumba Iron Ore Engineering Learnership Programme is designed to train and develop young South Africans into skilled artisans in the mining sector. Through both theoretical training at SIVOS and on-the-job practical experience, learners will acquire the technical expertise required to become certified artisans.
Participants will work under experienced mentors, follow strict safety standards, and gain exposure to world-class mining and engineering practices.
Available Trades
- Electrical / Millwright / Auto-Electrics
- Fitter / Diesel Mechanic
- Boilermaker / Plater Welder
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a South African citizen with a valid SA ID.
- Aged 18–35 years.
- Currently unemployed.
- Possess a valid driver’s licence.
- Provide proof of residential address.
- Be medically fit and able to pass a Fitness Assessment & RFA.
Educational Route (choose one):
1. School Route:
- Grade 12 with:
- Mathematics (minimum 50%)
- Physical Science (minimum 40%)
OR
2. N2 Route:
- N2 with relevant subjects for your chosen trade.
Trade-Specific N2 Subjects:
- Electrical / Millwright / Auto-Electrics: N2 Mathematics & N2 Science
- Fitter / Diesel Mechanic: N2 Mathematics, N2 Science & N2 Engineering Drawing
- Boilermaker / Plater Welder: N2 Mathematics, N2 Science & N2 Structural Drawing
Key Responsibilities
- Attend SIVOS theoretical training and complete on-the-job practical training on site.
- Follow safety standards and mine procedures at all times.
- Complete logbooks, assignments, and trade test preparation requirements.
