Amercia’s best fish and chips chain reveals opening date of first UK site as 20 shops to come


A TOP American fish and chip chain has announced the opening date for its first UK restaurant.

Captain D’s will open on Monday October 20 in Westwood Cross shopping centre in Broadstairs, Kent.

The inaugural Captain D’s site will be part of the centre’s newly developed leisure offering, which was on the former site of Debenhams, alongside Hollywood Bowl and Taco Bell.

Captain D’s is a prominent fast-food restaurant chain in the United States, known for its seafood offerings.

It has 530 restaurants across 23 states.

Consumers have raved about the restaurants on social media, one said: “It was the best fried fish they’d had.”

Another added on Trip Advisor that Captain D’s “always has good food and great prices.”

The brand is celebrated for its crispy fish sandwich, fire-grilled fish and seafood platters which feature crispy butterfly shrimp and crab shells stuffed with seafood.


The chain is also famed for its hush puppies – small,savoury, deep-fried balls made from a cornmeal-based batter.

Captain D’s has officially signed a 20-unit master franchise agreement to introduce its restaurants to the United Kingdom.

This will see 20 restaurants opened across the country.

The brand was founded in 1969 in Tennessee.

It has gained a loyal following for its high quality and affordable offerings.

UK chairman of Captain D’s, Daryl Stutchbury, said “Captain D’s isn’t just another fast-food outlet – it’s a premium experience rooted in quality, community, and innovation.

“We’re proud to be setting the stage here in Kent and can’t wait to welcome our first guests.”

Following the Kent opening, further restaurants are expected to launch in Sussex and Hampshire, as part of Captain D’s expansion across the region.

Captain D’s is not the only American chain to expand into the UK, US favourites Chick-fil-A, Popeyes and Dave’s Hot Chicken have all succesfully launched.
