Keye got engaged when he was fresh out of uni
In an interview with East London Lines from two years before Keye filmed MAFS UK, he went into detail about his divorce. Keye met his first husband on a dating app back in 2014. They moved in together after just three months of dating, and got engaged after six.
“It was my first gay relationship,” he said, “he made me feel protected and safe. He showed me aspects of the community I didn’t know or hadn’t experienced. He gave me that protection that you look for when you’re young and naïve.”
Keye did reveal on MAFS that his husband was about a decade older than him.

They got divorced after nearly seven years
The couple got married in Kent in 2017, but separated about a year after the wedding. Solicitors divided up their assets in January 2019, and they finally divorced in 2020.
Keye said back in this 2023 interview: “Obviously the marriage wasn’t right for me, but the relationship was right for a seven-year period of my life. It’s an acceptable chapter of my life.
“I did spend a lot of time feeling like my marriage was a failure and I had failed a community that fought for you to have the right to get married. I made it work for as long as it was meant to work. We go to the same gym, it’s awkward and we just politely nod across the room. We’re never going to be friends, but we can breathe the same oxygen in the same room.”
He also added that he would “definitely” get married again, and “maybe even a couple more times”. This aged amazingly.

Why did Keye break up with his husband?
In the 2023 article, Keye explained they “grew into very different people” and “there were many things that led to the breakdown of the marriage”.
