Ajike Owens’ mother shares brutal response to so-called ‘apology’ Susan Lorincz gave her

The mother of Ajike Owens has shared a brutal response to the apology her daughter’s killer Susan Lorincz issued her. Susan Lorincz was found guilty of manslaughter after shooting Ajike Owens, and is currently serving 25 years in prison.

Ajike Owens was shot and killed by a single bullet that Lorincz had fired, through her closed and bolted front door. This came after months of community confrontations, after it was clear Lorincz had a hatred towards the local children, and accused them of “trespassing” when they played outside.

Susan Lorincz was convicted in August 2024 and sentenced to 25 years in prison, in November 2024. At the end of her sentencing hearing, Susan Lorincz made a desperate plea for leniency to the judge, and listed off her “reasoning” for committing the crime.

She did later apologise, and said: “To AJ’s mom, children, and friends, it is with a heavy heart and great remorse I write this letter to you. First and foremost, I am so sorry that I took AJ’s life. I never intended to kill her the night I shot the gun. I was confused as to why she was screaming and pounding on my door.”

Ajike Owens’ mother, Pamela Dias, has since said she’s not having the apology. It seems that the way Susan constantly makes excuses and never just plainly says sorry isn’t remorse to her.

“Susan’s apology was a last-ditch attempt to save herself. It wasn’t sincere; she never showed remorse,” Dias said. In a further interview she told CNN: “No sentence or verdict can ever bring full peace or accountability for what was taken from our family. Our focus remains on honouring Ajike’s legacy through justice, healing and community care.”

Since then, Lorincz has given another interview from jail. She spent the majority of the interview trying to explain her side of the story once more, but then did attempt another thinly veiled hint of remorse.

When asked if she truly thought she was capable of killing someone, Lorincz added: “No. It just makes me sick. I just never, ever thought in a million years this would happen, and it just, it breaks my heart. I can’t take it back. I can’t replace her. I did an apology to the family, and I’m still so sorry.”
