The Agricultural Business Chamber (Agbiz) invites South African students to apply for the Agbiz Centenary Bursary for the 2026 academic year.

About the Agbiz Centenary Bursary

The Agbiz Centenary Bursary supports postgraduate students pursuing Master’s or PhD studies in Agribusiness Management-related fields at recognised South African universities.

The bursary aims to advance research, innovation, and leadership within South Africa’s agricultural and agribusiness sectors by funding academically excellent students whose research aligns with the objectives of Agbiz and contributes to the growth of the agribusiness industry.

Successful candidates will be contacted by mid-January 2026, and bursary payments will be made directly to the student’s university account in February 2026 (unless otherwise agreed).


Bursary Coverage Value

  • The bursary provides funding up to R47 500 for one academic year.
  • Students must reapply annually for continued funding based on satisfactory academic performance.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:

  • Must be a South African citizen.
  • Must have completed or be in the final year of a relevant undergraduate degree.
  • Must be registered or qualified to register for a Master’s or PhD degree in an Agribusiness Management-related field.
  • Must study at a recognised and accredited South African university.
  • Must have achieved a minimum of 60% for all major subjects.
  • Preference may be given to applicants from previously disadvantaged groups, females, and persons with disabilities.

Selection Criteria

Bursary recipients will be selected based on:

  1. Academic merit and the relevance of their research to agribusiness.
  2. Field of study alignment with Agbiz priorities.
  3. Motivation and purpose of the bursary application.
  4. Willingness to collaborate with Agbiz in developing research topics.

Step 2: Prepare Supporting Documents

Submit clear certified copies of the following documents along with your completed form:

  • South African ID document (certified)
  • Full academic record (on institution letterhead)
  • Proof of registration or admission letter (on institution letterhead)
  • Recommendation letter (max 1 page) from academic supervisor or head of department
  • Motivational letter (max 1 page) explaining your suitability and goals
  • Declaration of any other bursary or financial support (if applicable)

Important Notes

  • All applicants will receive an email confirmation upon submission.
  • Incomplete or late applications will result in automatic disqualification.
  • Bursary recipients must submit biannual academic progress reports, prepared by their supervisor or head of department, to Thapelo Machaba at policy@agbiz.co.za.
  • The bursary may be terminated if a student fails to maintain satisfactory progress or withdraws from their studies.
  • Successful recipients must sign a formal agreement with Agbiz.
  • Any undisclosed bursary funding from another source will lead to disqualification.
