President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed Advocate Dinkie Portia Dube as the Deputy Public Protector of South Africa for a seven-year term, effective from 1 February 2026.

The Presidency confirmed the appointment on Thursday following a recommendation from the National Assembly.

Advocate Dube is a veteran of the public sector with over 20 years of experience in oversight and investigations.

She currently serves as the Director-General of the Public Service Commission and previously held senior roles at the Military Ombud and the South African Human Rights Commission.

In welcoming the appointment, the President highlighted the office’s vital role as a supreme oversight body.

Advocate Dube’s extensive background, including her past tenure as Provincial Director for the Gauteng Office of the Public Protector, is expected to bolster the institution’s capacity to remedy improper conduct within the state.
