ActionSA’s Xolani Khumalo to be sworn in as Ekurhuleni councillor

ActionSA’s Ekurhuleni Mayoral Candidate, Xolani Khumalo, will be officially sworn in as a councillor in the City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality on Monday.

Party spokesperson in Ekurhuleni Tumelo Tshabalala said Khumalo’s swearing in marks a key step in ActionSA’s plan to prepare for governing the metro.

“As a councillor, Khumalo will gain first-hand experience of the municipality’s systems, operations and challenges,” Tshabalala said in a statement on Sunday.

The party lauded Khumalo as a respected community activist, saying his transition would enable him to “lead ActionSA’s fight to fix Ekurhuleni and deliver meaningful change for its residents”.

Tshabalala said party leaders including President Herman Mashaba, national chairperson Michael Beaumont, and Gauteng chairperson Funzi Ngobeni will attend the ceremony.

Khumalo is the former host of crime-busting TV show Sizok’thola. He hosted four seasons before joining ActionSA.

The party announced him as its mayoral candidate last month, with Mashaba praising him as a “fearless” and “ethical leader”.

“A fearless, ethical leader, Khumalo is ready to reclaim Ekurhuleni from criminals, provide basic services and ensure growth and jobs,” said Mashaba.

Khumalo is also the founder of the Xolani Khumalo Foundation which aims to eradicate drugs in communities. Khumalo works with law enforcement, government and community leaders to address the crisis.
