A listener recently wrote in to share her excitement about her upcoming wedding. But along with the joy came a challenge. Her fiancé was upset that she had bought a dress for her mother but not for her future mother-in-law.

She does not see a problem with her choice, believing that her mother-in-law is not her responsibility. Now she has reached out to The Best T in the City with Tbose for advice, asking if she was wrong not to buy an outfit for her fiancé’s mother.

“Tis the wedding season, and my turn is coming up in November. Preparations have been going well, but now I’m facing an issue with my future husband. Out of nowhere, he asked me why l’m not doing for his mother what l’ve been doing for mine.

“When I asked what he meant, he pointed out that I had ensured my mother had a dress, bought her a wig, and arranged her makeup – but I hadn’t done the same for his mother. I was shocked because my fiancé has two sisters. Isn’t it their responsibility to make sure their mother is taken care of in that way?

“He says this makes him uneasy and makes him wonder if, in marriage, l’ll always put his mother in the background. I have no issues with my future mother-in-law, but I honestly don’t understand why it should fall on me to handle her dress, hair, and makeup when she has two daughters who could easily do that.

“Surely, they should know to step in for their mom, right? Or does my fiancé have a point – that what I do for my mother, I should also do for his mom too? I’m really confused. What could be my blind spot here?’
