It’s all systems go for SASSA Older Person Grants in October 2025. After a trying time behind closed doors for the agency, the good news is it’s put beneficiaries first with an increase. Yes, even while it’s fighting with Postbank over its now defunct Master Service Agreement (MSA), select grants are increasing this month.

In fact, many social welfare experts are surprised by the increase, after the higher-than-expected, above-inflation increases back in April 2025. In many ways, grant recipients got lucky because of Finance Minister Godongwana’s repeated postponed budgets. The increases had already been announced and his budget was only challenged in parliament months later.

Grants typically take three months to be approved. However, if successful, you will receive backdated funds from your initial application. If, however, you are denied, you do have 90 days to with the department HERE for all the documents.

WHAT HAPPENS UNDER REVIEW?

- Report immediately to a SASSA office.
- Bring along a recent bank statement/valid work payslip.
- Copy of your ID.

- Budget’ repayment over a number of months (accruing interest and costing more).
- Or a debit order that comes off your bank account each month (also accruing interest).
