Freshers’ Week is undoubtedly the wildest yet one of the best weeks of any student’s university life. Meeting new people, constant night outs and taster sessions – there’s so much going on. But, let’s be honest, the one thing on every student’s mind is: What will my next freebie be?
From free pizza, tote bags, to being given way too many pens, Lancaster University has been known to not disappoint when it comes to these freebies. They’re genuinely such a lifesaver, especially when it comes to every student’s struggling bank account.
So, here’s a handy guide with some of the places where you’re most likely to find freebies this week.
Arrivals Weekend
If you’re a fresher, you won’t have to wait long before the freebies start. Every college will be looking to welcome you to Lancaster and what better way than with some gifts. From previous years there’s been free food, tote bags, playing cards, pens and merch. Expect a nice moving in present to kick-start your week.
Freshers’ Week events
Not a guarantee, but there is a very strong likelihood that a lot of these events will have something on offer, whether it be free food or discounts, so they’re definitely worth keeping an eye on.
Colleges

Bowland, Grizedale, Lonsdale and Pendle are all offering welcome packs with some incredible discounts. We’re talking free entry, Sultans discounts and free drinks. Anyone in Furness can receive discounts from many food places on campus like Pizzetta too.
Definitely speak to your JCR to find out the full range of Freshers’ Week discounts, and find out more on each college’s Instagram page.
Freshers’ Fair
Yes this is the most obvious place, but it is so worth going to. With Lancaster University’s two Freshers’ Fairs (sports and societies), expect a lot more discounts and freebies. Be prepared to walk out of here with no less than a million pens, tote bags, merch, stickers, leaflets and vouchers. Freshers’ Fairs are a goldmine of freebies, so pack light as everyone will be trying to give you stuff. If that doesn’t convince you, there will probably be free Domino’s pizza too.
Clubs
The Lancaster nightlife during Freshers’ Week thrives. College bar crawls, freshers’ first nights out, returning students reuniting with friends – it’s chaotic but so much fun. Many bars and clubs will be drawing you in with numerous discounts. LA1, for instance, is offering free entry on your college night and £2 entry for other days!
For arrivals weekend, Generation are offering trebs (triple shots!) for £4. Expect a lot of drink discounts and cheaper entry which will definitely be worth checking out.
Society taster sessions
Just a word of warning, societies will be doing anything to get you to join, and yes, freebies may very well be their method. If you’re thinking of going to any taster sessions (and we thoroughly recommend going to as many as you can fit in), definitely keep an eye out for possible freebies that may be provided. And even if you have no interest in joining, you might still get something free out of it.
