Composer Selaelo Selota has issued a statement to clarify a booking dispute for his One Country Concert, claiming he is owed R90,000 by Thikho Events following the withdrawal of musician Ringo Madlingozi.
Selota confirmed he booked Madlingozi for the 30 August 2025 concert in Polokwane through Thikho Events, the agency Madlingozi had directed him to. An agreement was reached for a R180,000 fee, with Selota paying a R90,000 deposit on 9 April 2025.
The situation changed on 28 May 2025 when Selota received a letter from Ristar Records, announcing they were Madlingozi’s new management and that the relationship with Thikho Events was terminated, cancelling all previous bookings. Selota was instructed to retrieve his deposit from Thikho Events and make a new request for the performance.
Selota claims Thikho Events initially assured him the booking was still confirmed, but despite follow-ups, no resolution was provided. Direct contact with Madlingozi confirmed he was now under Ristar Records and would not perform unless Selota retrieved the deposit from Thikho Events and paid a new one to his new management.

Selota refused to pay a second deposit, having already paid the initial R90,000. He has now referred the matter to his legal team, having received no response to formal letters sent to Thikho Events. As of the statement’s release, Selota maintains Thikho Events still owes him the R90,000 deposit.
