First Club World Cup manager set to be SACKED after dismal performance sees angry fans confront team bus

PORTO manager Martin Anselmi is reportedly set to be sacked after the club’s dismal Club World Cup form.

Porto failed to win a single game in the competition as they were dumped out in the group stages – sparking angry reaction from fans.

Anselmi, 39, was only appointed in January, but Portuguese outlet CMTV have reported that he is now set to be dismissed.

The manager is said to already be aware he will be sacked, despite his current deal running until 2027.

Porto’s efforts in the US at the Club World Cup saw them draw Egyptian side Al-Ahly and Brazilian outfit Palmerias, while they were beaten 2-1 by Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami side.

Porto also struggled to keep pace with their rivals in the Liga Portugal this season, finishing third and some 11 points off champions Sporting.

But it was their dismal efforts in the Club World Cup that appear to have tipped things over the edge.

According to Record, Porto’s players and staff – including club president Andre Villas Boas – were confronted by a group of around 50 angry fans as the team bus arrived at the airport back in Portugal.

Another report from A Bola, claims that no final decision has been made on Anselmi’s future, but a meeting is in place to discuss his role going forward.

They claim that the former Cruz Azul boss will refuse to waive any of the remaining money he is owed for an early termination of his deal.
