Tebogo Malaka, the former CEO of the Independent Development Trust (IDT), has resigned effective 31 January 2026.
The board confirmed that she will depart without any exit compensation, following a tenure overshadowed by serious allegations of corruption and misconduct.
Malaka’s position became untenable after she was suspended in August 2025. An investigation by PwC into a R836 million oxygen plant tender intended for 60 state hospitals uncovered significant procurement irregularities. The report’s findings led to immediate calls for disciplinary action against senior leadership.
Further damaging her reputation were allegations that Malaka attempted to bribe investigative journalist Pieter-Louis Myburgh. It is claimed she offered payment to influence his reporting on the agency’s internal affairs for the Daily Maverick.
To maintain organisational stability, the IDT board has confirmed that Sifiso Nsibande will continue as acting CEO. The trust now looks to move past the controversy and restore its focus on infrastructure delivery.
