Former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs is in favour of Orlando Pirates potentially signing Mamelodi Sundowns defender Khuliso Mudau.
The 30-year-old right-back’s contract with Masandawana comes to an end in June, and the player is yet to sign a new deal. The Buccaneers could pounce if Mudau and Downs fail to agree in the coming months.
The lanky defender’s future with the club has been in question since the start of the season, when he missed several key matches.
Josephs feels Orlando Pirates could win the Betway Premiership if they sign Mudau during the January transfer window.
“That will be a marquee signing. For me, he is the best right-back in the country, if not Africa. The wealth of experience he brings, the quality that he brings. He comes with a league title and he will be an unbelievable signing if it happens,” he said.
“The management has been making some quality signings, and I won’t be surprised if somehow they pull this one off.”
Mudau to Orlando Pirates could happen
The Buccanners have so far signed Andre de Jong, Daniel Msendami and Mpho Chabatsane this transfer period.
Speaking on Soccer Beat, Josephs said the new players should be given time.
“Any signings that come to Orlando Pirates need to be judged when they play. At Pirates, you have to prove yourself; you don’t come with a reputation,” he said.
Mudau might join Orlando Pirates if he sees an opportunity
“You will get the chance to play, you will get the chance to prove yourself. We have seen it with all the signings that have come to us this season. Is either you make it happen for yourself or that chance is going to be a rope to hang yourself. Time will tell,” Josephs added.
