Edu-Paw issues plea for help after holiday theft

A non-profit animal organisation in KwaZulu-Natal has endured a “ruff” start to the year after a major holiday theft.

Located in Amanzimtoti, Edu-Paw’s mission is to educate children about every aspect of animal welfare, basic canine care and pet ownership. Through their training programme, which these youths and their dogs undergo, the organisation hopes to instil compassion and responsibility, as well as stem animal neglect and cruelty.

Unfortunately, Edu-Paw has been left reeling following a break-in over the December holidays.

CHRISTMAS THEFT LEAVES EDU-PAW HIGH AND DRY

Per a recent Facebook post, the Edu-Paw team explained that the perpetrators broke into their office during the Christmas period. The theft resulted in significant infrastructural damage and the loss of precious pet supplies.

“Doors, windows and security bars were smashed, and everything we need to start our new class was stolen,” the post reads.

“Our hearts are heavy, and we honestly don’t know where to turn – but we do know the strength of our Edu-Paw family.”

In the wake of the devastating theft, Edu-Paw is calling on the public for much-needed assistance.

“Our most urgent need is to secure the container by replacing windows, door locks, security bars and gates,” the post reads. “Once this is done, we will need to replenish what was taken.”

If you are in the position to do so, you can donate:

  • Collars and leashes
  • Dog blankets and jackets
  • Adult and puppy food

“Every share, every donation, every act of kindness helps us continue changing lives – both human and canine,” said the team.

In other news, Panthera Africa, a big cat sanctuary, is appealing to the public for financial assistance. Donations will go towards sedating and relocating its animals amid the recent wildfires in the Western and Eastern Cape.
