Shipwreck Museum invites South African unemployed youth to apply for EPWP Internship Programme 2026

Internship Application Closing Date: 16 January 2026
Internship Location: Shipwreck Museum and Stellenbosch Museum under the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS), South Africa.

The Shipwreck/Skeepswrak Museum invites suitably qualified and motivated unemployed young people to apply for the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) Internship Programme for the 2025–2026 period. The internship is offered within Library Service – General Stacks and provides valuable workplace experience in a museum and library environment.

The contract runs from the date of assumption of duty until 31 March 2026, with a daily stipend ranging from R162.00 to R243.00.


About the EPWP Internship Programme

The EPWP Internship Programme is aimed at empowering unemployed youth between the ages of 18 and 35 by providing practical on-the-job training. Successful candidates will be placed at the Shipwreck Museum and the Stellenbosch Museum and will support daily library and administrative operations.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Senior Certificate (Grade 12)
  • Be between 18 and 35 years old
  • Be unemployed and willing to gain practical workplace experience

The successful candidates will be responsible for, among others:

  • Filing and shelf reading of books
  • General administration and coordination duties
  • Report writing
  • Event management and training support
  • Asset verification
  • Supply chain and human resources assistance
  • Messenger and delivery duties
  • Research assistance
  • Sorting, scanning and unpacking library material
  • Capturing and listing items on the SLIMS computer system
  • Assisting with stock management
  • Supporting affiliated libraries within the region
  • Maintenance of library material and equipment
  • Performing ad hoc duties within the Library Service
