- A Mpumalanga couple has been arrested on charges of child grooming and statutory rape involving a minor.
- Police allege the woman persuaded the girl to engage in sexual activities with different men in exchange for cash.
- The suspects are expected to appear in the Ogies Magistrate’s Court, with more charges still possible.
A 25-year-old female and her 33-year-old alleged boyfriend have been arrested in Phola, Mpumalanga on charges of child grooming and statutory rape involving a minor.
The pair was arrested earlier this week after police received information from the victim’s mother, who reported that the 25-year-old encouraged and persuaded her 15-year-old daughter to engage in sexual activities with different men in exchange for cash.
Mpumalanga Police spokesperson. Jabu Ndubane says the two perpetrators were nabbed immediately after police received the complaint.
“According to the complainant, the victim stated that a woman known to her at Oyco, where she frequently spends time with friends, constantly encouraged, instructed, and persuaded her and other female friends to engage in sexual activities with various men, so that the men would pay her and share a portion with the girls,” said Ndubane.
Ndubane added that accused woman allegedly compelled the minor to have sexual intercourse with a 33-year-old man known to her and later gave her R100 in cash.
“On the same day, at around 12h30 p.m., the woman coerced the victim into having sexual intercourse with her purported male friend, who had assured them that payment would be made later”.
The suspects are expected to appear before the Ogies Magistrate’s Court on Thursday facing charges of child grooming and statutory rape, with the possibility of additional charges being filed.
