About Lephalale Local Municipality
Lephalale Local Municipality is a local government authority in the Limpopo Province committed to community development, education support, and skills development. Through the Mayoral Bursary Fund, the municipality invests in local youth to address skills shortages and promote socio-economic development within the region.
Fields of Study Funded
The Mayoral Bursary Fund supports undergraduate studies in the following fields:
- Financial Studies
- Civil Engineering
- Chemical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Town and Regional Planning
- Mining-related Studies
- Other Scarce Skills
Bursary Coverage and Selection Process
The bursary provides funding for the following expenses:
- Tuition fees
- Accommodation and meals
- Prescribed books (for needy students)
Please note:
- Shortlisted candidates will be required to undergo psychometric assessments
- Applicants must attend interviews
- A means test will be conducted, including home visits, to assess financial need
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet all of the following minimum requirements:
- Must reside within the Lephalale Local Municipality, Limpopo
- Must have completed Matric
- Must be studying or intend to study full-time in one of the listed fields
- Must be studying or intending to study at a recognised tertiary institution in South Africa
- Must have a consistently strong academic record
- Parents or guardians must be unemployed or classified as indigent
- Preference will be given to students who passed:
- Mathematics
- Commerce
- Physical Science
- Technology

- South African ID document (certified copy)
- Matric certificate (certified copy)
- Most recent academic results (on institution letterhead)
- Proof of tertiary acceptance or admission (if available, or to be submitted once received)
- Parents’ or guardians’ ID documents (certified copies)
- Parents’ or guardians’ proof of income:
- Latest payslips or income statement (if employed), or
- Affidavit (if unemployed)
- Proof of residence
- Motivational letter
- Curriculum Vitae (if currently studying)
