Motorists have been urged to avoid reckless driving this weekend as thousands of holidaymakers are expected to return to Gauteng from various provinces across the country.
The City of Tshwane has warned of high traffic volumes, with the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) confirming that heightened law enforcement measures will be in place.
TMPD spokesperson Isaac Mahamba says officers will be deployed at key points along major highways to monitor traffic flow, enforce road traffic laws, and respond swiftly to emergencies.
Mahamba says reckless driving remains a major concern during peak travel periods, as motorists often rush to reach their destinations.
He warned that TMPD officers will not tolerate speeding, drunk driving, or any behaviour that could lead to road accidents.
Motorists have also been cautioned to remain extra vigilant as the rainy season continues, with wet and slippery roads increasing the risk of skidding and hydroplaning.
Drivers are advised to maintain safe speeds, keep a safe following distance, avoid sudden manoeuvres, and conduct pre-trip vehicle inspections to ensure tyres, brakes, lights, and other essential components are in good working condition.
