Kaizer Chiefs to make big decision on coaches

Kaizer Chiefs will decide at the end of the season if they will keep Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze.

The two have served as co-coaches since the sacking of the head coach, Nasreddine Nabi, in October. With Amakhosi struggling to find form in the Betway Premiership and CAF Confederations Cup, the Chiefs management are likely to renew their contracts after this season if the club don’t turn things around.

Currently, Amakhosi are fourth in the league, and trail rivals Orlando Pirates by four points, although the Buccaneers have a game in hand.

Will Kaizer Chiefs get a new coach next season?

That will depend on how the club performs in the second half of the season. If Chiefs can defend the Nedbank Cup and finish in the top four, perhaps the Motaungs might consider extending the duo’s contract. A good showing in CAF can also boost their chances of continuing for another season.

With 11 players signed, Amakhosi have shown improvement this season but their real test will come when they face Pirates in the coming weeks. A good result against the Buccaneers will no doubt win fans over.

Even if Kaizer Chiefs finishes in the top three and reaches the CAF CC knockout stages, that might not be enough to see Ben Youssef and Kaze keep their jobs. The management will have to make a tough decision at the end of the season, especially if the team can show great improvement.

The likes of Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Dillan Solomons and Flavio Silva have shown great form under the two coaches and with a new coach coming in, it might affect the progress of the team.

Many Kaizer Chiefs players appear to enjoy playing under the co-coaches than under Nabi, and it’s evident with the results this season.

Should Amakhosi get a new coach?
