Christmas 2025: Weather forecast for these provinces

If you are still deciding what to wear this Christmas, the weather forecast for parts of the country may help you plan. Here is what to expect in the North West, KwaZulu-Natal and the Free State on Thursday, 25 December.

NORTH WEST

The province can expect cloudy and warm conditions with scattered showers and thunderstorms. In the western parts, it will be partly cloudy. The South African Weather Service has issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms over the eastern areas of North West. These storms may bring heavy downpours that could lead to flooding of low-lying areas, vulnerable roads and bridges, as well as excessive lightning and small hail.

MAHIKENG

In the provincial capital, it will be partly cloudy with scattered showers and thundershowers. Temperatures are expected to range between a minimum of 17°C and a maximum of 29°C.

KWAZULU-NATAL

Morning and evening fog is expected over the interior of the province. For the rest of the day, conditions will be cloudy and cool to warm, with isolated showers and rain. Along the coast, winds will be light to moderate, blowing from the south-west to the south.

DURBAN

Durban can expect a cloudy day with isolated showers and rain. Temperatures will range between 21°C and 25°C.

FREE STATE

The extreme eastern parts of the Free State may experience some morning fog. Otherwise, the province will be cloudy and warm, with scattered showers and thunderstorms. The western areas will be partly cloudy.

BLOEMFONTEIN

In Bloemfontein, Christmas Day will be partly cloudy with isolated showers and thundershowers. Temperatures are expected to range between a minimum of 18°C and a maximum of 30°C.
