The KwaZulu-Natal Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) team from Park Rynie recently arrested a senior provincial government official for drunk driving and exceeding the speed limit.
The team stopped the official during their routine operations in the area.
DRAMATIC CHASE ENDS IN THE ARREST OF THE SENIOR GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL
RTI officials said the government official sped off after realising he was facing arrest.
However, officers pursued the vehicle and eventually cornered it following a brief speed chase.
RTI officers arrested the official at the scene.
Inside the vehicle, officers found another intoxicated adult male and a 17-year-old female passenger.

FIREARM AND ALCOHOL FOUND
During a search of the vehicle, RTI officers also recovered a firearm.
Authorities immediately confiscated the weapon.
Officers further seized alcohol bottles, which were entered into evidence.
The arrested government official now faces multiple charges.
These include drunk driving, exceeding the speed limit, reckless driving, failing to stop and possession of a firearm while under the influence.
MEC PRAISES RTI ACTION
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport and Human Settlements Siboniso Duma praised the RTI team for enforcing the law without fear or favour.
“RTI is treating motorists equally. If you are arrested for drunk driving, please don’t call us. We are busy,” Duma said.
The official was denied bail and remains detained at Scottburgh Police Station.
Investigations continue.
