Police in the Western Cape are investigating a case of pointing a firearm following the circulation of videos on social media allegedly showing the Deputy Mayor of Bitou Municipality firing a gun in Plettenberg Bay.
The incident reportedly involves councillor Nokuzola Kolwapi, who is seen firing several shots into the air during a ceremony in KwaNokuthula to welcome initiates back into the community.
Video circulating online
Western Cape police spokesperson Chris Spies confirmed that officers from the KwaNokuthula police station visited the premises after the video began circulating online.
“The investigation is at an early stage, and no arrests have been made at this point,” Spies said.
Kolwapi is the leader of the Ikhwezi People’s Movement (IPM).
The party has acknowledged the incident and said it will issue a statement later on Monday.
