The “land parcel” auction, scheduled for 26 February 2026, will open the door to new private-sector investment across the metro.
Just under 50 properties will be placed on the block, offering opportunities for residential, commercial, industrial, community and mixed-use development.
Together, the sites span approximately 282 000m² of land and are spread across dozens of suburbs, from the city centre to key industrial and residential nodes.

Good Hope Centre under the hammer
High-profile precincts such as the Good Hope Centre area and the Foreshore feature in the auction, alongside industrial and commercial parcels in Mitchells Plain, Atlantis Industrial, Parow, Goodwood and Epping.
The City says each site has been assessed and confirmed as surplus to municipal requirements. This allows it to be released for development.
Mayco Member for Economic Growth, James Vos, described the auction as a way to unlock economic potential and stimulate growth.
“This is an extraordinary opportunity for private-sector investment across the metro,” Vos said.
“Each site has been carefully packaged to attract investors who can deliver tangible benefits for communities and the broader economy.”
According to a City statement, revenue generated from the sale and lease of the properties will be reinvested into service delivery, while the public auction format is intended to ensure transparency and open competition.
“I firmly believe that our land portfolio must drive economic growth rather than sit idle,” Vos added.
“This auction sets the standard for how we will put our properties to productive, purposeful use.”
The initiative also builds on a broader pipeline of land disposals completed in recent years.
