Law enforcement officials have intercepted a cross-border bus on the N1 bypass near Peter Mokaba Stadium after discovering the vehicle was carrying nearly double its permitted passenger limit.
The 65-seater coach, which was travelling from Gauteng to Malawi, was found to be transporting 117 people in total.
The manifest included the driver, 101 adults, and 15 minors representing a severe overload of 52 passengers beyond the legal safety capacity.

According to reports, the situation escalated when authorities instructed the driver to divert the vehicle to the Provincial Traffic Control Centre (PTCC) for formal weighing and processing.
While en route, the bus became immobilised just a short distance from the weighbridge.
During the breakdown, the driver allegedly attempted to flee the scene on foot. However, he was quickly apprehended and restrained by a joint team of Limpopo Traffic Officers and members of the South African Police Service (SAPS).
