South African actress Natasha Thahane is mourning the loss of both her uncle and her grandmother, opening up about a painful period for her family.

Sharing the heartbreaking news, Thahane revealed that her family suffered two losses within days of each other. Her uncle passed away on Sunday, followed just days later by the death of her grandmother on Wednesday.

In an emotional reflection, the actress shared her final moments with her grandmother, painting a picture filled with love, familiarity and gentle guidance.

She recalled sitting with her grandmother while braiding her hair, when she was asked to choose straight-back cornrows instead of single braids because they would be quicker.

Thahane said she listened, as she always did, noting that even in those final moments, her grandmother was still guiding her in the quiet, caring way she always had.

While Thahane was busy helping to make arrangements for her uncle’s funeral, her grandmother calmly spoke about how she wanted her own funeral to be handled. Although Thahane and her hairdresser asked her not to talk about such things, she continued matter-of-factly.

They spoke, laughed and spent time together, with Thahane recalling that her grandmother seemed completely fine. She waited for her cousins and younger sister to return, and for Thahane to finish braiding her hair.

Not long after, everything changed.

The 30-year-old shared that her grandmother passed away in their hands. She paid tribute to her with heartfelt gratitude for the wisdom, love and lessons she gave so freely throughout her life.

The actress also reflected on a recent joyful memory, recalling a trip to Thailand in July, a long-held dream made possible through her work with the Garnier team.

She said she takes comfort in knowing that her grandmother experienced that happiness and is now resting.

The Blood & Water actress admitted that the reality of losing both her uncle and grandmother has not yet fully sunk in. She ended her message with a quiet plea for strength as her family continues to navigate this season of grief and mourning.
