United Manganese of Kalahari (UMK) invites unemployed South African youth to apply for the Engineering Learnership Programme (Mining & Mineral Processing – 18.2) for the 2026 intake. This opportunity is aimed at young people from the John Taolo Gaetsewe (JTG) District, specifically the Joe Morolong Local Municipality, who want to build a long-term career in the mining industry.

UMK is offering learnerships in the following engineering trades:

  • Diesel Mechanic Learnership (Mining & Mineral Processing – 18.2)

These learnerships are designed to prepare learners for artisan development within the mining sector.


About the UMK Engineering Learnership Programme

The UMK Engineering Learnership Programme focuses on practical, on-the-job training within real mining operations. Learners will gain exposure to core mining activities while developing both technical and workplace skills aligned with mining industry standards.


What You Will Learn

Participants in the programme will gain:

  • Hands-on experience in blasting, drilling, excavation, and mining operations
  • Exposure to mining safety procedures and regulations
