The Eastern Cape erupted in celebration over the weekend as Miss South Africa 2025, Qhawekazi Mazaleni, returned to her home province for a highly anticipated and deeply emotional homecoming tour.
Mazaleni’s journey began in the historic streets of Mthatha, the notable birthplace of the late former President Nelson Mandela, setting a tone of profound cultural significance for the tour.
Driving through the familiar neighbourhoods of her childhood, Qhawekazi stopped frequently to greet excited locals who lined the roadside, cheering, waving, and reaching out to congratulate her.
The spontaneous interaction allowed many to speak with her and capture proud selfies, showcasing the deep, palpable bond she shares with her community.
Speaking about the experience, Mazaleni expressed her humility and shared an inspiring message aimed at the next generation.
“Coming back home has been extremely humbling and deeply fulfilling. I want children in Dutywa to be able to look at me and be validated in their dreams and their hopes knowing that it’s possible to achieve them no matter how big. Even if they want to be doctors or engineers, they shouldn’t doubt themselves.”
