- 323 vehicles Jeep Wrangler (2016-2018) recalled due to a clockspring dust issue that could prevent the driver’s airbag from deploying in a crash.
- 18,600 units of Kia Models across five models (2009-2015) were recalled for a faulty ABS fuse, which may increase stopping distances and risk engine bay damage.
- Affected consumers must contact an authorised dealership immediately for free inspection and repairs to ensure safety.
The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has issued a safety alert regarding two major vehicle recalls affecting Jeep Wrangler and various Kia models across South Africa, as notified by the respective suppliers.
Stellantis South Africa (Pty) Ltd is recalling 323 Jeep Wrangler vehicles sold between 2016 and 2018.
The supplier warns that dust inside the clockspring could compromise the airbag circuit. This defect may cause the airbag warning light to illuminate or, more seriously, prevent the driver’s airbag from deploying during a crash.
Separately, Kia South Africa has notified the NCC of a recall involving a total of 18,600 vehicles.
The affected models—Sportage (SL, KM), Sorento (XM), Optima (TF), Cerato (TD), and Soul (AM) were sold nationally between 2009 and 2015.
These vehicles require an ABS fuse replacement, as the current defect may cause the ABS system to malfunction, potentially increasing the vehicle’s stopping distance and, in certain cases, leading to engine bay damage.
The NCC strongly urges affected consumers to treat these recalls seriously and immediately arrange for the necessary inspections and repairs. The required work will be carried out at any authorised dealership at no cost to the consumer to ensure their safety.
