Sipho Mbule has been included in the 2025 Bafana Bafana AFCON squad and he’s now found a home at Orlando Pirates.
Is he overrated though?
Mbule started life as a deep-lying playmaker, but has slowly gravitated further up the pitch.
Still, his stats don’t paint a great picture.
Orlando Pirates star Sipho Mbule lacks a cutting edge
Sipho Mbule’s most productive period came at the now-defunct SuperSport United with 11 goals and 10 assists in 101 appearances.
That’s a healthy output, but those numbers have steadily declined throughout his career.
He only chipped in with five goals and four assists in 68 appearances across stints with Mamelodi Sundowns and Sekhukhune United.
A tally of zero goals and zero assists in 15 appearances for Orlando Pirates isn’t good enough for a No 10 and simply has to get better.
He hasn’t scored or assisted in any of his last 21 matches for club and country.
Midfield gems Mpho Padime and Cemran Dansin will be breathing down his neck in the coming seasons.
Mofokeng started slowly, but he’s warming up nicely
Youngster Relebohile Mofokeng has 43 direct goal contributions after 105 outings for the Sea Robbers.
Mofokeng claimed an assist against Durban City, his second of the campaign, after an uncharacteristically slow start to the season.
He was the man of the match against Gavin Hunt’s KwaZulu-Natal side, too.
Some fans and pundits think Mofokeng needs to move abroad to maximise his potential.
Mofokeng racked up a staggering 49 appearances in the 2024/25 season across all competitions.
Arguably the club’s most important operator over the past two campaigns, that sample of matches included 12 goals and 15 assists.
He’s showing Mbule how it’s done in the final third.
