At least ten people have been killed in Saulsville, Pretoria, and scores of others injured.
National Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says ten injured victims have been taken to hospital.
The circumstances surrounding the brutal incident have not yet been confirmed, but many in the community claim it is linked to gang violence.
This shooting comes just days after the killing of Witness D, Marius “Vlam” van der Merwe, who was gunned down in Brakpan on Friday in front of his family.
Van der Merwe, 41, had recently testified before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, which is probing alleged corruption, criminal networks and political interference in the justice system. He was killed shortly after 8pm.
The Pretoria incident also follows another gang-related shooting last month, where six people were fatally shot in Boksburg, east of Johannesburg.
Mathe says police are currently on the scene to determine the possible cause of the shooting.
