The ongoing Gauteng taxi violence has claimed yet another life in the city of Johannesburg.
Vusi Mayaba, the chairperson of the Alexandra Taxi Association, was shot dead on Thursday evening shortly after leaving a restaurant in Woodmead.
His death comes a few days after two taxi owners from the same association were killed in a drive-by shooting in Midrand.
In October, another high-ranking official from the Alexandra Randburg Midrand Taxi Association (Armsta) was killed in a shooting incident in Marlboro. Molefe Moekeletsi was the chairperson of Armsta.
Johannesburg MMC for Transport, Kenny Kunene, said his department is concerned about the ongoing violence in the taxi industry.
“We are saddened to hear about the killing of another Taxi Boss, Chairman of ATA and Director of ABC Vusi Mayaba. Mr Mayaba was shot last night in Woodmead as he was leaving a restaurant. We are very much concerned that there has been multiple murders that are Taxi related,” said Kunene.
Mayaba’s death is now under police investigations.
