Former Durban City head coach Gavin Hunt feels Orlando Pirates have the best squad in the country.
The Buccaneers defeated Durban City 2-0 in what was Hunt’s last match with the KwaZulu-Natal-based team this past weekend.
Pirates’ win saw them go top of the Betway Premiership for the first time this season. Hunt, who was speaking before Saturday’s clash, said the Buccaneers had so much quality that they could afford to bench the county’s best players.
“If you look at this squad, they have, the past three years, I think they have huge impact players, which makes a difference. If you look at their squad, who they bring on,” Hunt said.
“Them being out of Africa is a big plus for them. When they bring on Appollis and these kinda of players, they make a huge impact on the game and they are the country’s best players and they are sitting on the bench.”
Hunt feels Pirates might be ahead of Sundowns
With Mamelodi Sundowns failing to beat Siwelele midweek, they failed to go top and now trail the Buccaneers by two points.
Last season, Masandawana ended up winning the league by 12 points despite Pirates giving them a fight in the first half of the season.
Hunt feels the title fight this season between Sundowns and Pirates could go down to the wire.
They have huge pace and speed, which hurts teams and I think that’s the difference. I am not saying who’s going to win the league but I just think their [Pirates] squad is very strong,” Hunt said last week.
The former SuperSport United coach also felt that Masandawana might get distracted by the CAF Champions League and drop points in the Betway Premiership.
