Marketing Manager

Position Overview:

Kaya 959 is seeking a dynamic and strategic Marketing Manager to lead the strategising,
planning, development, and execution of innovative marketing initiatives that drive brand
growth, audience engagement, and commercial impact.

The Marketing Manager will be responsible for shaping, modernising, and executing Kaya
959’s end-to-end brand, marketing, and audience-growth strategy. This includes driving
cultural relevance and strengthening the station’s competitive edge, in a way that unlocks
commercial value and drives engagement across all channels (radio, digital, brand
partnerships, events, and new IP).

The Marketing Manager must champion Kaya 959’s identity
while growing listenership, building community, and evolving the brand for the future.

Key Performance Areas:

Brand Strategy & Positioning

  • Define a stand-out, differentiated value proposition for Kaya 959 that resonates with
    core and emerging audiences.
  • Develop and communicate Kaya 959’s brand positioning.
  • Protect and enhance brand reputation and consistency across all touchpoints.
  • Lead brand strategy that authentically reflects the station’s values.
  • Strengthen Kaya’s leadership in music, talk, culture, lifestyle, and programming.

Audience Growth & Content Marketing

  • Create go-to-market plans that drive audience acquisition, engagement, retention, and
    advocacy.
  • Collaborate with Programming and Digital teams to strengthen on-air and online
    listener experiences.
  • Implement multi-channel audience engagement strategies including outdoor, ATL
    media, digital, social, and experiential.
  • Measure and optimise marketing activity based on audience performance, insights,
    and research.
     

Commercial Enablement & Revenue Growth

  • Create marketing plans aligned with station programming, audience insights, and
    revenue priorities
  • Develop IP experiences that can be monetized
  • Create and execute integrated trade campaigns that deliver high-impact ROI
  • Support revenue KPIs and client retention plans.
Communications, PR & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Lead communications, reputation, and crisis management.
  • Drive internal marketing alignment.
  • Develop strategic relationships that deliver positive exposure for Kaya 959.
  • Monitor public sentiment, news cycles, and industry trends to protect and enhance
    brand reputation.
Marketing Campaigns & Budget Management

  • Manage the marketing budget and ensure optimal allocation across channels to
    deliver maximum brand impact.
  • Plan, execute, and analyse integrated marketing campaigns — including outdoor,
    radio, digital, influencer, social media, and technology-led initiatives.
  • Oversee campaign production and overall project management.
  • Track expenditure, negotiate with suppliers, and ensure cost-effective campaign
    delivery.  

Partnerships & Brand Extensions

  • Identify, negotiate, and manage strategic partnerships with brands, event
    organisers, other media outlets, and vendors to increase brand exposure.
  • Drive collaboration opportunities that enhance Kaya 959’s experiential marketing
    footprint.
  • Lead commercial partnership integration into events and activations (in
    collaboration with Sales and Programming).
  • Grow Kaya 959’s network of brand alliances to enhance relevancy, reach, and
    value for stakeholders.

Team Leadership & Department Oversight

  • Provide strategic direction and operational guidance to the Events & Activations,
    PR and Trade Marketing teams.
  • Manage performance, development, and skills upliftment across the department.
  • Institute effective processes, systems, and reporting tools to optimise output and
    accountability.

Events, Activations & Experiential Marketing

  • Direct the design and execution of world-class on-the-street experiences that bring
    the Kaya 959 brand to life.
  • Ensure events and activations are strategically aligned with audience growth,
    sales objectives, and brand-building outcomes.
  • Drive innovation in experiential marketing through tech, digital, and partnerships.

Time Management and Efficiency

  • Oversee multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, managing tight deadlines and high-volume workload while maintaining quality.
  • Deliver copywriting projects on time.  
Qualifications / Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Communications,
    Business, Media, or related field.
  • Master’s degree or MBA advantageous.
  • 10 – 15 years professional senior marketing
    experience in media, broadcast, digital,
    entertainment, or FMCG.
  • Proven audience / customer growth and digital
    transformation success.
  • Strong TTL campaign track record.
  • Experience building and monetizing content IP.
  • Deep understanding of South African cultural and
    media dynamics
  • Experience in partnership negotiation and
    relationship management.
  • Leadership experience managing multi-disciplinary
    teams.
