Master Builders Association Western Cape (MBAWC) Bursaries 2026

The Master Builders Association Western Cape (MBAWC) invites South African students to apply for the Master Builders Association Development Trust (MBADT) Bursary for the 2026 academic year. This bursary supports students pursuing Built Environment qualifications at recognised universities and universities of technology in the Western Cape.

Fields of Study Funded by the MBAWC / MBADT Bursary

The MBAWC Bursary is focused on the Built Environment sector and will fund the following types of qualifications:

University Degree Studies (Western Cape)

  • Civil Engineering (BSc)
  • Construction Studies (BSc)
  • Construction Management (BSc Hons)
  • Quantity Surveying (BSc Hons)
  • Project Management (MSc)
  • Masters studies (subject to a motivated application)
  • Other Built Environment–related fields

University of Technology National Diploma and Advanced Studies (Non-NSFAS focus)

  • Construction (Extended) (Diploma)
  • Construction (Diploma)
  • Construction (Advanced Diploma)
  • Construction Health & Safety (Advanced Diploma)
  • Quantity Surveying (Advanced Diploma)
  • Master of Construction
  • Other Built Environment–related fields

You must be studying or intend to study at a recognised tertiary institution within the Western Cape.


What the MBAWC Bursary Covers

The MBAWC / MBADT Bursary:

  • Is awarded for one academic year at a time
  • May be renewed, based on satisfactory academic performance
  • Covers tuition fees only

Tuition fees are paid directly to the tertiary institution in two instalments:

  1. First instalment: after funding has been approved
  2. Second instalment: after a mid-year academic performance review

Successful candidates will be notified by no later than 13 February 2026 and must accept or decline the offer within 3 working days.
If you do not receive feedback by 17 February 2026, you should consider your application unsuccessful.


Eligibility Requirements for the MBAWC Bursary

To be considered for the MBAWC / MBADT Bursary, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must have completed Matric at a school within the Western Cape
  • You must be studying or intend to study towards one of the Built Environment qualifications listed above in 2026
  • You must be studying or intend to study at a recognised tertiary institution in the Western Cape
  • You must NOT qualify for NSFAS funding
    • Your parents’/guardians’ household income must exceed the NSFAS threshold (i.e. between R350 000 and R600 000 per annum)
  • You must NOT qualify for any other bursary fund or support from a SETA / CETA
  • Preference will be given to:
    • Employees of MBAWC member companies or their family members
    • Applicants employed by a member company that has been compliant with the BIBC benefit system for at least 24 months uninterrupted

Supporting Documents Required

When submitting your application, you must include clear, certified copies (where applicable) of the following:

  • Certified copy of your ID document
  • Most recent academic record/results (certified)
  • Proof of acceptance at a tertiary institution (on the institution’s official letterhead)
  • Motivational letter explaining why you should be awarded the bursary
  • Parents’ or guardians’ proof of household income, such as:
    • Latest payslips (if employed)
    • Affidavit (if unemployed)
    • Proof of grant or pension (if applicable)
  • Affidavit confirming parents’ or guardians’ income (see application form)
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)

Applications missing any of the required documents may be rejected.
