  • Pretoria continues to face severe weather, including heavy rains, thunderstorms and hail, causing widespread damage and power outages.
  • The City has activated a coordinated response team to handle more than 100 reported incidents.
  • Residents are urged to stay alert and report any storm-related damage.

Pretoria residents have been cautioned to stay alert and safe as extreme weather conditions are expected to continue throughout the week.

This comes after heavy rainfalls, thunderstorms and hail wreaked havoc in some parts of the city, leaving many residents without electricity, damaged cars and uprooted trees.

Gauteng has been experiencing rainfall for a few days consecutively, with weather forecasters predicting that this might be the issue for the whole month of December.

Meanwhile, the Executive Mayor of Tshwane, Nasiphi Moya, says the City continues to respond swiftly to flood incidents, power outages, and damage caused by these weather conditions.

“We have formed a coordinated response to the severe weather which includes the dispatching of our Emergency Services Department, Regional Operations Coordination Department (ROC) and Water & Sanitation Department,” said Moya.

Extreme weather conditions were first reported in the City on Sunday night, with the suburbs of Pretoria North being most affected.

Hail damage and debris were reported in Montana, Wonderboom, Doornpoort and Sinoville.

A situational report compiled by the City details that over 100 incidents were reported that required immediate intervention.

Moya says all departments will continue to respond to any lodged queries.

“In addition, the Energy and Electricity Department will continue to respond to power outages.

The majority of the damage reported thus far was of fallen trees that had blocked properties and public roads in multiple areas, including the Pretoria CBD, Pretoria West, Pretoria North, and Pretoria East,” she said.

Minor incidents of flooding were reported in Ga-Rankuwa and Atteridgeville, where houses had been flooded.

Furthermore, a roof of a house was blown off by strong winds and a mud house collapsed in Bronkhorstspruit.

Residents have been urged to report damage caused by ongoing severe weather conditions.
