Gauteng residents will face another day of unstable weather as rain, thunderstorms and cooler temperatures continue across the province. The South African Weather Service has maintained a yellow level 1 warning for severe thunderstorms, which are expected to affect several parts of the province.
Forecaster Odirile Modipa said the unsettled conditions would persist.
“Today those rainy conditions are expected to continue,” she explained.
Modipa added that overnight temperatures dropped across the province, with Johannesburg recording around 11°C and Pretoria sitting at 15°C.
Cool temperatures and warnings across Gauteng
Gauteng will experience relatively cool daytime temperatures, with Johannesburg expected to reach a maximum of 24°C while Pretoria rises to 27°C.
Modipa said the combination of cooler weather and recurring thunderstorms may extend well into the evening.
“We do have a yellow level one warning for severe thunderstorms going into parts of Mpumalanga, Gauteng, as well as the North West,” she noted.
These conditions follow a night of heavy rainfall across central parts of the country, contributing to widespread cloud cover and reduced visibility.
Safety precautions for residents
Authorities encourage residents to take precautions, especially during peak storm periods. While no major flooding incidents have been reported, the persistent nature of the storms remains a concern.
Scattered to widespread showers are expected over the central and eastern parts of the country, which includes Gauteng.
Residents are urged to drive cautiously, avoid low-lying areas and prepare for short-term localised disruptions.
