DStv subscribers could be losing over a dozen TV channels as soon as the New Year.
This comes as its parent company, Multichoice, has not renewed its distribution agreement with Warner Bros. Discovery,
This year, Multichoice was taken over by the French pay-TV company Canal+.
DSTV SCUBSCRIBERS COULD LOSE THESE CHANNELS
In an email sent this week, DStv warned its subscribers of a potential mass exodus of a dozen of its channels. This is a result of the looming end of the agreement between Multichoice and Warner Bros. Discovery.
While negotiations are ongoing, no agreement has been reached with the international media group yet.
“If this remains unchanged, a number of Warner Bros. Discovery channels may no longer be available on DStv from 1 January 2026”, read the email.
Should this occur, subscribers will lose the following channels:
- Discovery Channel
- TLC
- Cartoonito
- Cartoon Network
- CNN International
- Food Network
- The Travel Channel
- TNT
- Investigation Discovery
- Real Time
- HGTV
- Discovery Family
MORE CHANNELS GET THE AXE
If that wasn’t bad enough, DStv announced that it would be shutting down four major channels come 31 December.
Paramount Africa has confirmed that it will be discontinuing the BET Africa and MTV Base channels.
The multimedia broadcast organisation says this is in line with scaling back its international operations as part of a major restructuring plan.
In addition, CBS AMC Networks have also announced plans to downsize, shutting down CBS Reality and CBS Justice channels.
Despite the bad news, DStv has promised to introduce new content, channels, and services in the New Year.
