Cape Town load reduction to affect THESE areas till Sunday

Residents have been alerted to the following Cape Town load reduction schedule for the first week of December. From today – Tuesday 2 December to Sunday 7 December 2025 – affected residents will experience two hours of power cuts. These are spread across two different time slots for each block. Namely, 05h00 till 07h00 and again from 17h00 to 19h00.

The first week of December is already blighted in certain Eskom-supplied areas. The power utility says illegal connections and electricity theft are placing a heavy burden on transformers in these areas. As a result, Eskom has no option but to introduce Cape Town load reduction as a way to protect its infrastructure. And not suffer larger outages that may necessitate upgrading to full load shedding.

Therefore, areas drawing power from Eskom are being split into two groups for Cape Town load reduction in December.

Block A (off from 05h00 to 07h00):

  • Philippi East
  • Crossroads
  • Klipfontein
  • Mfuleni

Block B (off from 17h00 to 19h00):

  • Philippi
  • Crossroads
  • Klipfontein
  • Eersterivier
  • Mfuleni
  • Highgate (Silversands)
  • Part of Airport Industrial
  • Khaya
  • Mandela Park (Khayelitsha)

Unfortunately, those with a keen eye will see it is bad news for low-income residents in Philippi, Mfuleni, Crossroads and Klipfontein. They appear in both block A and B and therefore face load reduction twice a day (four hours in total) for the rest of the week.

Furthermore, Eskom warns that persistent pressure on transformers and mini substations in these areas may necessitate even more load reduction to prevent damage to equipment. For detailed schedules of load reduction all across the country, you can click HERE.
