  • MultiChoice has warned DStv subscribers that the broadcaster may lose 12 channels from Warner Bros. Discovery if contract negotiations fail by 31 December 2025.
  • The popular channels at risk include Discovery Channel, CNN International, and Cartoon Network, among others, potentially affecting multiple content genres.
  • DStv confirmed that while discussions are ongoing, they are prepared to strengthen their content line-up in 2026 to ensure continued value for customers.

MultiChoice, the broadcaster behind DStv, has alerted its customers that it may lose the rights to broadcast 12 channels from the Warner Bros. Discovery stable if ongoing distribution agreement negotiations fail to conclude by 31 December 2025.

The channels currently facing potential discontinuation include a significant portion of DStv’s documentary, lifestyle, and children’s content, specifically:

Discovery Channel, TLC, Cartoonito, Cartoon Network, CNN International, Food Network, The Travel Channel, TNT, Investigation Discovery, Real Time, HGTV, and Discovery Family.

The potential loss of these channels—which also includes the major global news provider, CNN International—presents a significant challenge for MultiChoice, which was recently acquired by French media conglomerate Canal+.

In a formal statement addressed to customers, the DStv Team confirmed the impasse:

“The distribution agreement between MultiChoice and Warner Bros. Discovery is scheduled to end on 31 December 2025. While discussions between the parties continue, no agreement has been reached at this stage. If this remains unchanged, a number of Warner Bros. Discovery channels may no longer be available on DStv from 1 January 2026.”

The company assured subscribers that its priority is to provide the best entertainment experience at the best possible pricing, stating:

“Every time you subscribe, you trust us with your money, and we take that responsibility seriously.”

MultiChoice further indicated that should the channels be dropped, it is prepared to strengthen its offering.

The company stated that its platforms already carry a wide range of content—including sport, entertainment, news, kids, and lifestyle—and that it is “preparing to further strengthen and enrich our line-up in 2026 with new content, channels and services.”
