Here’s what the sky has in store for KwaZulu-Natal, the Free State and the North West on Tuesday, 2 December. A Yellow Level 2 warning has been issued for all three provinces, so you may need more than just an umbrella.
The South African Weather Service says severe thunderstorms are expected, which could bring localised flooding, damaging winds, hail and excessive lightning.
KWAZULU-NATAL
The usually sunny province will be cloudy and warm, with widespread showers and thundershowers, although conditions will be scattered in the west. It will be cool in places in the south-west.
DURBAN
The provincial capital will be cloudy with widespread showers and thundershowers. Temperatures will range from 20°C to 27°C.
Similar conditions are expected in Richards Bay and Pietermaritzburg, with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 29°C.
NORTH WEST
The North West will be partly cloudy and warm to hot, with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated in the west, so keep a raincoat handy.
MAHIKENG
In the provincial capital, conditions will be partly cloudy with scattered showers and thundershowers. A minimum of 16°C and a maximum of 29°C is expected.
FREE STATE
A foggy start is expected in the Free State. Otherwise, it will be cloudy and cool to warm with scattered showers and thundershowers, becoming partly cloudy with isolated showers and thundershowers in the west.
BLOEMFONTEIN
Bloem will be cloudy with scattered showers and thundershowers. Expect a low of 13°C and a high of 29°C.
WEATHER WARNING
According to the South African Weather Service, the thunderstorms and showers could result in:
- Localised damage to infrastructure, informal settlements, property, vehicles, livelihoods and livestock.
- Disruption of municipal and essential services.
- Loss of agricultural production.
- Flooding of susceptible roads, low-lying areas and bridges.
