- Eskom announced scheduled load reduction across Gauteng from 1st to 7th December 2025, resulting in power outages of up to six hours daily.
- The cuts are primarily scheduled during peak demand periods 5:00 AM to 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, affecting numerous suburbs across the province.
- Eskom attributes the necessity for load reduction to sustained pressure on substations caused by illegal connections and electricity theft, aiming to prevent equipment failure.
Residents across Gauteng are facing a week of scheduled power cuts, known as load reduction, as Eskom implements a strategy to protect infrastructure from damage caused by overloading.
The state-owned power utility has released its load reduction timetable, which will be in effect from Monday, 1st December, to Sunday, 7th December 2025. Affected areas can anticipate power outages lasting approximately five to six hours, with varying time slots depending on the locality.
The rotational cuts are being implemented during the periods of peak electricity demand: 5:00 AM to 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
Eskom stated that the measure is necessary due to the “continued pressure on our transformers/mini-substations due to illegal connections and electricity theft.”
The utility stressed that load reduction is crucial to prevent critical equipment damage. Several high-density regions across Gauteng will be impacted throughout the week.
Morning Load Reduction (5:00 AM – 9:00 AM) includes:
- Orange Farm and its extensions
- Stretford and its extension
- Sebokeng

Other areas facing scheduled interruptions this week are:
